Stop and Smell the Computer
An object for the exhibition “mindSHIFT 2026”, part of Smykkernes By 2026.
I made the graphic design for the exhibition poster, and I made a necklace called “Stop and Smell the Computer.”
Conceptual wearable art exploring the intersection and transition between nature and technology. 925 silver, electrical wires and a matte black onyx cabochon.
We are living in the age of tech: self-driving cars, artificial intelligence, algorithms. The far-fetched futures depicted in science fiction movies from the 80’s no longer feel like a distant future. Nature is dying and it’s being replaced by intranet wires, chips and hardware.
Jewelry, technology and nature have a commonality that might not be obvious at first sight. A lot of the recycled metal used in jewelry comes from old tech, melted down for various reasons.
In this piece I have used the opposing aesthetics of nature and tech to tell the story of the future. What will the future look like? Will the tech swallow us, will it swallow nature, or will we swallow it?
